When the long weekend comes around, it’s easy to let your fitness goals fall by the wayside. But there are plenty of ways to stay on track-and even get ahead-by incorporating physical activity into your holiday plans. Here are five tips to help you do just that:
Schedule time for physical activity.
Just because you are on vacation doesn’t mean you should take a break from your fitness routine. In fact, holidays can be the perfect opportunity to get in some extra activity. Schedule time each day for a walk, run or swim – and stick to it!
Choose active activities.
When planning your holiday activities, make sure to include some that are physically active. Go for a hike instead of just sightseeing, play tennis or go for a bike ride. Not only will you get some exercise, but you’ll also see more of the area you’re visiting.
Pack your workout gear.
Don’t let packing light stop you from being active on vacation. Make sure to pack your workout gear so you can squeeze in a workout even when you’re away from home.
It’s easy to overindulge when you’re on vacation, but try to make healthy choices whenever possible. Opt for fresh fruits and vegetables, lean protein and whole grains. And of course, don’t forget to drink plenty of water!
Get enough sleep.
Although it can be tempting to stay up late and enjoy the nightlife while you’re on vacation, make sure to get enough sleep. Getting enough rest will help you feel your best and have more energy for sightseeing and other activities during the day.
Following these tips will help you stay active and healthy while you’re away from home. With a little planning, you can make sure your long weekend is both fun and good for you!
